What we do
The Lapeer Art Association’s goal is to encourage and help new artists, bring artists together, promote the fine arts and provide opportunities in the community to be involved in the arts. In an effort to support and serve local artists, the L.A.A. encourages and welcomes ALL artists, both amateur and professional in all areas of fine arts and crafts.
LAA artists have participated in Lapeer Days, Art on the Town, the DIA Inside Out program, Art on Nepessing, The Great Pumpkin ASK, Art In The Rough, Art Camp and Art in the Garden to name a few community events. Volunteer LAA artists also donated their time and expertise to painting a mural on the Lapeer VFW Post 4139. LAA holds eight shows a year, free and open to the public situated in Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer. The association also holds "LAA Days" offering workshops and demonstrations to members of the public. LAA members also donate their time and resources for projects in the community. Members are involved in education programs offering classes for all ages in the community in collaboration with Gallery 194, the Lapeer Center for the Arts and the Lapeer Downtown Development Authority. Joining the LAA allows networking with other artists, education and growth as an artist. You will hear about opportunities to show and sell your work. Working as a community of artists there is a greater opportunity to reach a wider audience for your artwork and talents. You will help advance participation and appreciation of the arts and culture for your community. The LAA has a website presence not just with this site but also a Facebook page. Facebook opens our group to a wider audience on today's social networking platform. History
For over 30 years the Lapeer Art Association has held a commitment to enhancing the cultural life of the Lapeer community. Through our gallery exhibits, participation in community events such as Lapeer Days, the Farmer’s Market, the “Just for You” exposition and holding art fairs and sales, the L.A.A. is a primary connection to applied fine arts in this community.
The Lapeer Art Association, incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1975, was founded by local artists who were involved with the 1972 Artrain visit to Lapeer. The LAA has made a serious commitment to enhance the cultural life of this area by promoting, cultivating and encouraging art education opportunities. In July 1995, the Lapeer Art Association purchased a building at 241 Daley Rd. in Lapeer. For ten years this served as a gallery with free shows available for the public and as a classroom for various art related classes. In 2005, L.A.A. made the decision to sell the gallery building and rented gallery space in the new Lapeer Center for the Arts, Gallery 194, located in downtown Lapeer. This gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday, 12 PM – 6 PM. |
