LAA PLEIN AIR WEEKEND
Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 10AM to 4 PM Plein Air Painting
Sunday, July 26, 2020 Art Show and Community BBQ
What is Plein Air Painting?
Plein air is a term derived from the French phrase "en plein air," which literally means “in the open air” and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, which was originally developed by the Barbizon School and the Impressionist movement of the late 1800s. The Impressionists were particularly interested in the influence of changing light outdoors on color. Artists work quickly to capture their subject in natural light. The term is sometimes incorrectly applied to landscapes painted in the studio which employ such a direct technique that they seem to have been done out of doors.
Artist will have full access to the Master Gardens at Suncrest from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday. Running water, restrooms, bottled water and lunch will be provided both days of this weekend.
Should you be coming from a distance and need help with accommodations, The Lapeer Art Association will make available a limited number of pop up canopies for additional shade, however artists will need to provide their own supplies, easel, chair an d any additional umbrella or shade you may need.
Please dress according to Michigan's changing weather patterns.
On Sunday, July 26 the Lapeer Art Association will have artist display boards to hang art that artists may wish to sell. LAA will handle all transactions for art sales and it is agreed that a 20% from all sales be paid to LAA.
The Art Show and Community BBQ are free and open to the public.
